Working under the direction of the Plant Manager or a shift lead person, the Mail Line Inkjet Operator is expected to work independently and is responsible to setup and operate all of the inkjet devices according to specifications on the job ticket and postal regulations, as well as train and mentor other associates in the department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager or shift lead person
  • Read the job ticket and follow directions on the job ticket
  • Understand and keep updated with postal regulations
  • Prepare proper mailing statements
  • Setup and operate all inkjet devices
  • Setup and operate tabbing devices
  • Sort mail and tray all mail product
  • Stack mail skids
  • Train other associates on machinery
  • Perform minor maintenance to the machines, as needed
  • Pay close attention to detail
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience                                            

  One year certificate from technical school or three (3) years related experience and/or training

Language Skills                                           

  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

Mathematical Skills                                                 

  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

Reasoning Ability                                                     

  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving the mailing department

Computer Skills                                           

  Basic computer skills required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  Fork lift license required within 60 days of hire

Other Skills and Abilities                                                    

  • Knowledge of USPS postal regulations
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work well with others

  • Average pieces per hour: 9,000
  • Able to independently complete 100% of all job set-ups assigned
  • Able to diagnose and correct 100% of job running issues
  • Ability to mentor and train junior operators in these skills
