3 Tips to Leverage Mobile in Your Marketing Strategy
Mobile isn’t coming. Mobile is here.
2014 is the year that mobile internet use is predicted to surpass desktop internet use. 58% of American adults now have a smartphone and 42% own a tablet computer (Source). Businesses and nonprofit organizations can no longer overlook mobile in their digital marketing strategies.
Get your digital marketing up to speed in the mobile arena with these three mobile marketing tips:
1. Make your emails mobile-friendly. Email has become a mobile-first channel with over half of all emails now opened on mobile devices. When designing your marketing emails, do so with the understanding that many recipients will view your email on a small smartphone screen. Use an email marketing platform that allows you to optimize for mobile, keep your email messages brief, and make sure any links in the email lead to mobile-optimized webpages.
2. Get creative with short videos. With the amount of media available for consumption today, consumer attention spans have shortened. This has fueled the rise of the short, shareable videos you can create through services such as Vine and Instagram. No one wants to watch a 5-minute video on their small smartphone screen. But a 6-second or 15-second video? This your audience will watch. Get creative and have fun showcasing your organization in a short video!
3. Don’t worry about a branded app. Consumers spend 85% of their time on smartphones using mobile apps. This is a big number, and you may think this means that a brand app is the way to go. However, most people are spending this time on very specific apps – games, Facebook, YouTube, and social messaging apps – and not on brand apps. It’s an investment to develop an app and a challenge to create an app with “sticky functionality,” neither of which may pay off for your organization.
